Urie was so enthusiastic that he set up a volleyball court in the yard of his home and for years to come invited students, colleagues, and neighbors to play. Urie's Early Life. Urie Bronfenbrenner was born on April 29, 1917, in Moscow, Russia. His parents, Alexander and Eugenie, were both Jewish. To escape the Russian Revolution, his father moved to the United States in 1922 and a year later, was joined by his wife and six year old Urie.

He argued that studies of children in unfamiliar laboratory environments with one other person, usually a stranger, were ecologically invalid (See Mary Ainsworth’s 1970 experiment of the ‘Strange Situation’).
